Tripoli, Libya — Founded in 2020 on the streets just outside the old city of Tripoli, Nafora, which appears to be a skate shop, represents something far greater. What started with skateboards soon became a cultural movement. Today, Nafora is not only Tripoli’s only skate shop but also a creative brand and a community that skaters across Libya call their own. At the centre of this story is Hamza Adrah, not only the founder of Nafora but also one of the driving forces behind the country’s skate scene. In the early days, Hamza and fellow skaters faced harsh judgment. They were labeled as strays for following what was seen as Western or “un-Libyan.” But the opening of Nafora, alongside the construction of the Make Life Skate Life skatepark in downtown Tripoli, changed the narrative. Since then, there has been a growing interest among the younger generation to use skating as a means of self-expression. For many of the youth, skating has become about challenging social norms and finding ways to release the daily pressures that can accumulate from compounding chaos. As Malik, one of the youths featured in the documentary, explains, skating goes beyond just tricks, it is a form of freedom. Nafora embodies an element of Libya often drowned out by political and social unrest: community and freedom. While to some it may be seen as a pastime, to skaters it’s about expression and identity. A sport so connected yet so removed, building a community while creating a journey in which one can only outdo themselves. During his final days in Libya, Ali Elmoudi was introduced to Hamza, spotted in the video wearing black jeans and a white Nafora-branded shirt. طرابلس، ليبيا — تأسست النافورة عام 2020 على أرصفة الشوارع القريبة من المدينة القديمة في طرابلس، لتبدو في ظاهرها مجرد متجر لألواح التزلج، لكنها في الحقيقة تمثل ما هو أعمق بكثير من ذلك. ما بدأ بألواح سكيت صغيرة تحوّل بسرعة إلى حركة ثقافية متكاملة. اليوم، تُعد النافورة ليس فقط متجر التزلج الوحيد في طرابلس، بل أيضًا علامة إبداعية ومجتمعًا نابضًا يلتف حوله المتزلجون من مختلف أنحاء ليبيا.

في قلب هذه القصة يقف حمزة ادراه — مؤسس النافورة وأحد أبرز المحركين لمشهد التزلج في البلاد. في بداياتهم، واجه حمزة ورفاقه المتزلجون أحكامًا قاسية ونظرات استغراب، إذ وُصفوا بأنهم “تائهون” لاتباعهم أسلوب حياة غربيًا أو “غير ليبي”. لكن افتتاح النافورة إلى جانب إنشاء ساحة Make Life Skate Life في وسط طرابلس غيّر تلك النظرة تمامًا.

منذ ذلك الحين، بدأ اهتمام الجيل الجديد بالتزلج يزداد بشكل واضح، باعتباره وسيلة للتعبير عن الذات. بالنسبة لكثير من الشباب، لم يعد التزلج مجرد حركات واستعراضات، بل طريقة لمواجهة القيود الاجتماعية وتفريغ الضغوط اليومية المتراكمة وسط فوضى الحياة. وكما قال مالك، أحد الشباب المشاركين في الوثائقي، فإن “التزلج يتجاوز مجرد الحركات… إنه شكل من أشكال الحرية”.

النافورة تمثل وجهًا آخر لليبيا — وجهًا غالبًا ما يختفي خلف ضجيج الاضطرابات السياسية والاجتماعية — وجه المجتمع والحرية. فبينما قد يراها البعض هواية بسيطة، يرى فيها المتزلجون أسلوب حياة وهوية. رياضة تجمع الناس رغم تفرّقهم، تبني مجتمعًا متماسكًا وتخلق رحلة يكون التحدي فيها الوحيد هو تجاوز النفس.

في أيامه الأخيرة بليبيا، التقى علي المودي بحمزة، الذي يظهر في الفيديو مرتديًا سروالًا أسود وقميصًا أبيض يحمل شعار النافورة. وخلال 48 ساعة فقط، تم تصوير فيلم وثائقي قصير وعفوي، بلا سيناريو ولا إعداد مسبق — لكنه التقط روح المكان والناس بصدق.
